Strautmann Magnon 8 Forage Wagon working in field

MAGNON

The Magnon series is aimed primarily at agricultural businesses and contractors. The top of the range Strautmann forage wagons are equipped with a number of new features including a moving front wall, as well as Flex-Load pick-up and Exact Cut.

The Magnon 8 is a compact machine with a loading capacity, medium compression of 68 - 83m³ (36m³ - 44m³ DIN). It has a smaller ‘external’ footprint to other wagons with similar DIN.

The Magnon 10 is the big brother wagon with a loading capacity, medium compression of 78 - 97m³ (42m³ - 52m³ DIN).

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Moving Front Wall

The hydraulically moving front wall provides the Magnon with increased capacity. When the wagon starts filling, the front wall is in a vertical position towards the rear of the wagon, but when chopped grass builds up and pushes against the tailgate sensor the front panel moves forward, in three stages, to increase capacity.  This ensures maximum density is achieved throughout the loading operation.

The movement of the front wall provides an additional 4.5m³ loading capacity when the cargo space is completely filled. When discharging, the front wall is hydraulically moved to the rear of the machine to assist with unloading.

This enables the Magnon 8 to have a smaller ‘external’ footprint to other wagons with similar DIN capacities, making it the ideal machine for agricultural businesses and contractors who are dependent on compact dimensions.

Robust body

The body has been designed for maximum interior width to increase transport capacity. The continuous side panels with the reinforced side posts give the machine stability. A large 6-foot access door with a folding ladder always ensures safe entry into the machine.

44 & 48 knife cutting unit

  • Easy cutting cut due to optimum geometry between the cutting knives and rotor
  • Knife protection without use of tools
  • Turn-able knives due to double-sided blade for longer sharpening intervals and better cutting quality
  • Individual knife protection with knife quick-change system
  • 44 knives (on the Magnon 8), 48 knives (on the Magnon 10) on one level for a theoretical cutting/chop length of 35mm
  • In case of shortened knives, readjustment of the entire knife bar via upper link
  • Hydraulic extending and retracting of the entire knife bar.

Instead of the knife being pressured into the rotor, the knife is set up with a cam clutch type system. The spot-on triggering, without the spring counter tension, means a foreign object will trigger the knife to spring out of the work position, thus only blunting or damaging one point on the blade. A conventional knife protection will cause the foreign object to travel the entire length of the blade before releasing it, blunting or braking a large portion of the blade.

Exact-Cut system

A new cutting system with a cutting edge on both sides of the re-designed double-sided blade, a 35mm chop-length is reliably guaranteed. The knives have a rapid-trigger protection function, which automatically retracts them from the chop channel if a foreign object is detected.

They then return automatically to their working position, maximising work-rates while minimising damage to the knives. Exact-cut is now standard on all Strautmann forage wagons, from the smaller Zelon through to the Magnon 10.

  • 44 knives ‘Exact-Cut’ unit on the Magnon 8
  • 48 knives ‘Exact-Cut’ unit on the Magnon 10
  • 35mm theoretical cutting/chop length
  • Tool-free knife change

Magnon 8 Powder-coated steel floor

  • Perfect protection against corrosion for a long service life
  • Transport floor with two chain strands
  • 10 mm thick, high-strength round steel chains with a breaking load of 13 t each
  • Handy profile strips with U-shaped cross-section for fast and safe transport of material

Magnon 10 Galvanised steel floor

  • In combination with low-wear plate-link chains
  • Transport floor chains welded with robust square pipes
  • Safe and fast transport of material
  • Drive via two-sided feed gearing with powerful oil motors
  • The bottom plates are protected by means of screwed wearing rails

Dual purpose

In order to increase the periods of use of the forage wagons, the Strautmann forage wagon offers the option to be used as a fully-fledged forage transport wagon. For this purpose, basic standard equipment is provided for these machines, such as:

  • A solid tailgate with mechanical locking mechanism
  • Open cargo space without body brackets or ropes
  • Hydraulically folding front panel

Hydraulic folding drawbar

For travelling over silage clamps, all models are equipped with a hydraulic folding drawbar with two double-acting cylinders. A hydraulic drawbar suspension ensures an even smoother ride during road travel.

Magnon 8 Tandem Chassis

A boogie tandem chassis is standard on the two smaller Magnon 8 models (370 and 410) and a hydraulic tandem chassis is standard on the Magnon 8 450 model and smaller Magnon 10 430 and 470 models. It is optional on the 370 and 410 Magnon 8 models. All models come with 4 x 710/50 R26.5 wheels as standard.

However, the hydraulic tandem chassis can be fitted with wheels up to 800/45 R 30.5, thus enabling 30.5" tyres. Larger wheels offer increased stability which is ideal for sloping ground.

  • Hydraulic tandem chassis standard on all Magnon 8 450 models, and on Magnon 10 430 and 470 models
  • Optimum driving comfort due to distribution of load on all wheels
  • Stable driving characteristics even when traversing hills

Magnon 10 Tandem Chassis

A tridem chassis with an axle load of 27t, active steering and lifting axle is an option on the Magnon 10 series. Hydraulic active steering is standard on largest Magnon 10 530 model.

  • Electro-hydraulic forced steering axle system for the first and third axle optional on all Magnon 10 models
  • Integrated lift axle
  • Standard on the Magnon 530 model with a gross vehicle weight rating of 34t

Flex Load Pick-up

The Magnon series is equipped with a new ‘Flex-Load’ pick-up which has six rows of plastic tines arranged in chevron formation. The Magnon 10 features a variable speed hydraulically powered pick-up while the Magnon 8 features a fixed speed mechanical chain drive pick-up

  • Less breakage of tines
  • Minimised tine wear
  • Change of tines in under a minute
  • Tines flex to adapt to ground contours
  • Gentle pick up for ground protection
  • Less contamination of fodder
  • Hydraulic pick-up drive gives automatic or manual tine speed adjustement

CONTINUOUS FLOW SYSTEM

Due to the interaction of the different components, the Continuous Flow System unit ensures excellent loading performance and a low power requirement.

The pick-up, Continuous Flow System roller, rotor and Exact-Cut cutting unit are optimally matched to each other. This results in an excellent cutting quality and power efficient drive, saving time and money.

  • Low power requirement
  • Full width filling
  • High Performance
  • Optimum adaptation to ground contours
  • Protection of drives
  • Longer service life of knives
  • Double-roller crop press

Continuous Flow System spreading-out effect

Continuous Flow System conveying unit:

The picked-up green fodder is dispersed by the pick-up and the accelerator drum and fed to the rotor and cutting unit over the entire width.

The distributor drum between the pick-up and rotor delivers fodder from pick-up to the rotor ensuring a low hp requirement. Even, full-width spread of material is enabled due to the spiral band welded to the feeding drum which pulls the crop towards the outside, so the entire rotor width is utilised, keeping a minimal and constant load on the machine.

Conventional conveying unit:

The picked-up green fodder is delivered to the rotor without spreading-out effect. The rotor and the cutting unit are partially loaded.

Feed Rotor

  • Robust conveyor drum with helically arranged conveyor fins with Hardox tine plates
  • Smooth operation, with no peak loads due to the helical rotor design
  • One-sided, torsion-free drive of loading rotor due to low-maintenance gearbox
  • Wide Hardox tine plates push the crop over the knives cutting it precisely, there is only a small gap between the Hardox tine and the cutting knives ensuring great chop quality

Camless Pick-up

  • Picking-up width of 2.25m
  • 6 helically arranged rows of Flex-Load plastic tines for reduced contamination of fodder.
  • Low maintenance camless pick-up with very few wearing parts, compared to traditional 'cam' pick-up systems.

ISOBUS CONTROL

The Strautmann ISOBUS control with its intuitive menu navigation and various automatic functions is part of the standard equipment. For maintenance work, the drawbar and the cutting unit can be easily operated from the outside.  A 5.7" control terminal can be offered as an option if an ISOBUS-compatible tractor is not available.
